About RICD

Federal Research and Clinical Center of Intensive Care and Rehabilitology has developed the first open dataset of intensive care patients in the Russian Federation - RICD. The development of RICD incorporated advanced principles and methods used in international open database projects such as the"eICU Program" by Philips Healthcare, "MIMIC-III" and "MIMIC-IV", “HiRID” and “AmsterdamUMCdb”.

The RICD dataset contains anonymized medical data of all patients who were treated in the Federal Research and Clinical Center of Intensive Care and Rehabilitology from December 2017 to Sep 2025. It presents patient medical-anthropometric data, information about movement of patients within the institution, diagnoses, data on therapy, laboratory results, scores on scales, vital monitored parameters in dynamics, and hospitalization outcomes.

The RICD dataset allows for in-depth analysis and research of clinical practices in the field of anesthesiology-resuscitation and intensive care, as well as the development of clinical decision support tools and the application of machine learning methods to solve diagnostic problems and improve patient outcomes. Due to the accessibility and detailed structuring of data, the dataset will become a useful tool for both scientific and practical tasks in the field of anesthesiology-resuscitation and intensive care medicine

Key features of the database:

  • Availability of monitored data from ICU patients. RICD is the first dataset in the Russian Federation to feature streaming data collected from bedside monitors and other equipment in ICUs. The data collection frequency is up to 10 evaluations per hour.
  • The primary cohort of patients consists of individuals who have been staying in ICUs for extended periods. More than 60% of the patients had a reduced level of consciousness (Glasgow Coma Scale score <15 points).
  • Availability of bacterial culture tests data with an evaluation of antibiotic resistance.

Description of the dataset

This section provides details of the data obtained at Federal Research and Clinical Center of Intensive Care and Rehabilitology between 2017 and 2025.

During this period, 8,135 patients were hospitalized, with a total of 10,938 hospitalizations.

Data was collected using the standard tools of the medical information system, which is based on "Asclepius" software and Oracle 11g relational database management system (RDBMS). The primary data set was extracted from various medical information system modules (registration, clinical, laboratory, pharmacy, etc.) using the virtual "Query Constructor" module. Additional queries were executed using the PL/SQL directly from the RDBMS.

All data were de-identified (anonymized) in accordance with the Federal Law No. 152-FZ "On Personal Data" to provide open access, following the National Standard of the Russian Federation "Health Informatics. Pseudonymization" GOST R 55036-2012/ISO/TS 25237:2008, approved by the order of the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology dated October 29, 2012, No. 585-st. The anonymization approach was approved by the local Ethics Committee (No. 4/23/2 dated 20.12.2023).

The created dataset consists of 11 interconnected tables. The total number of records in all tables is 33,047,375.

The key identifiers of all tables are: new_patient_id (modified patient ID), new_hosp_id (modified medical history ID).

The RICD dataset is distributed as a set of .csv files (frictionless data), which can be loaded into any relational database (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) or BI system. Additionally, metadata is provided in .json format, and the database is available in .db and .pbix (Microsoft PowerBI) formats.

Current version: RICD v3.0.
